Bruce Doyle Hughes 11/05/1941 - 12/25/2025
Bruce Hughes, beloved father and grandfather, passed away on December 25, 2025. His fierce independence was evident throughout his life and in his transition beyond life, as he was where he wanted to be—at peace in his home.
Bruce was born in McDowell County, North Carolina. His humble beginnings created in him a notable self-motivation, which led him to achieve almost any goal he attempted. During his 84 years of life he mastered many activities and was an avid reader and an exceptional swimmer, water skier, roller skater, race car driver, motorcyclist, angler, bowler, golfer, billiard player, checkers player, mechanic, cook, mathematician, theoretical physicist, calligrapher, and so much more. Bruce brought his numerous talents to bear and achieved admirable success and respect during his career in the textile industry and among his wide circle of friends and acquaintances.
In all his achievements, Bruce will be remembered most for being an extraordinary father and grandfather. He was preceded in death by the love his life, his beautiful Patsy. He is adored and survived by his children Eddie, Jacque & Andy, and Jennifer & Scott, his five grandchildren, and his eight great-grandchildren.
Bruce is fondly remembered for his witty sense of humor and deeply contemplative thought abilities. His unique perspectives, love of new experiences, and character of commitment and caring will have an enduring positive impact on his children and grandchildren far into the future.
The family will hold a private commemorative activity. No public services will be held. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you remember Bruce by choosing to enjoy one of his favorite activities while thinking of him and wearing a witty grin.
