Gordon Charles Widener 11/14/1939 - 06/11/2025
Gordon Charles Widener completed his earthly journey on the morning of June 11, 2025, and entered into the joy of the Lord. Gordon’s life was a testament to faith, family, and strength.
Gordon was born on November 14, 1939, in St. Louis, MO, to Charles Olaf and Esther Widener. He was married to Alice Joan Widener on July 18, 1959. He was a heavy equipment operator in the Midwest Operating Engineers Union for over 50 years.
Gordon was a dedicated member of First Apostolic Church in Aurora, IL, pastored by his friend, Rev. Bill Coltharp. While raising his family, he served his church as a Sunday School teacher, Sunday School Superintendent, choir member, usher, bus driver of the big blue buses, and Home Bible Study teacher. He retired in 2001 and followed his lifelong friends to the foothills of the Smoky Mountains in Maryville, TN. He attended First Apostolic Church, pastored by Rev Kenneth Carpenter. In his later years, he became a faithful online member, and it was the highlight of his day.
Gordon is preceded in death by his parents, Charles Olaf and Esther Widener, and Lucille Blackwell Widener, a lady dear to his heart. He has continued his journey ahead of his wife of almost 66 years, Alice Joan Widener, daughter Lisa (Randy) Newcomer, son Charles Lance Widener, daughter Laura(Dean) Volintine, and LaTrisa (Clark) Presson. His grandchildren Amber (Chris), Amy (Brad), Leslie (Nathan), Chad (Jordan), Meaghan (Derek), Ammon (Amandah), Evan Charles (Morgan), Avery (Christa), Riley (Aria), Landry, and Isabella. His great-grandchildren, Gavin Charles, Joseph, Millie, Kayla (Michael), Hailey, Cooper, Drew, Lucas, Grant, Tate, Sophia, Clara, Blair Rose, Payton, Hudson, Jenson Charles, and Miles.
Family will receive friends from 2:00 p.m.- 3:00 p.m. on Sunday, June 15, 2025, at First Apostolic Church of Maryville. The Funeral Service will directly follow at 3:00 p.m. with Pastor Kenneth Carpenter officiating. Family and friends will gather for entombment at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, June 16, 2025, at Grandview Cemetery Mausoleum Chapel.
