Mary Margaret Phelan 11/05/1942 - 04/14/2026

Mary Margaret Phelan, 83, of Maryville, TN, passed away peacefully in her home on April 14, 2026 surrounded by her family.

She was born on November 5, 1942 in Brooklyn, NY to William Phelan and Margaret Edmundson. Mary was known for her sweet nature and kindness, her generosity, and tireless persistence in providing for her daughters and assisting others. She was a woman of deep faith. Mary touched the lives of many throughout her career in banking and her willingness to serve others through volunteering in any capacity when needed. Mary enjoyed singing with The Hibernian Festival Singers, walking in the NYC Thanksgiving Day parade, serving a term as president for the Council of Catholic Women, and leading service projects for the United Way. Mary had a great sense of humor and the unique ability to develop deep and lasting friendships that spanned the course of her lifetime.

She is survived by her three daughters Mary (Hobbs), Elizabeth (Adams), and Janet (O'Faolain) along with nine grandchildren and four great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her six brothers John, Lawrence, William, Donald, Jerome, and Frank. 

Mary found joy in her beloved dogs and visiting with friends and family. She particularly enjoyed praying and leading the Rosary at church and was a devoted supporter of pro-life efforts. 

A funeral mass will be held on Friday April 17 at 10:00AM with viewing at 9AM at Our Lady of Fatima Church, Alcoa. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Maryville Pregnancy Resource Center (prcbctn.com)

Mary will be deeply missed and forever remembered by all who knew and loved her.
