William Parker, 82, passed away peacefully on April 5, 2026, in Vonore, Tennessee. Born on July 11, 1943, in Dade City, Florida, William lived a life marked by courage, dedication, and a deep love for the outdoors.

A proud veteran of the United States Army, William served as a Staff Sergeant during two tours in Vietnam. His bravery and leadership were exemplified during a harrowing mission to rescue a trapped infantry unit. For his extraordinary valor, he was awarded the Purple Heart Medal and the Meritorious Unit Citation. In a moment of great honor, President Barack Obama personally presented these awards to him in the White House Rose Garden on March 11, 2009. This remarkable act of heroism was chronicled in the book The Anonymous Battle and featured in an episode produced by The History Channel dedicated to their bravery.

Beyond his military service, William embraced life with passion and curiosity. He was a man of many talents and interests. As a shrimp boat captain, he found joy in fishing and being on the water. His love for gardening extended to cultivating grapes as a vintner, producing wonderful harvests that reflected his dedication to nature’s bounty. William also had an artistic side expressed through taxidermy and cooking—skills that showcased his creativity and resourcefulness.

Known for his kind heart, sharp wit, and resilient spirit, William cherished time spent outdoors. Whether tending to his garden or casting a line into the water, he found peace and fulfillment in nature’s embrace.

William is survived by his son Scott Parker and daughter and son-in-law Mike and Kimberly Odom. He will be laid to rest at Clover Hill Presbyterian Church in Maryville, Tennessee.
