Norma Sue Carpenter 03/14/1939 - 08/09/2025
Norma Sue Carpenter, 86, of Maryville, TN, was called home to her Heavenly Father on August 9, 2025, surrounded by the love she gave so freely throughout her life.
Born on March 14, 1939, in Maryville to Ed and Edith Best, Sue grew up rooted in the values of faith, family, and compassion.
On November 18, 1960, she married the love of her life, Bob Carpenter, and together they built a home filled with laughter, devotion, and unconditional love. Together they travelled the world from London to Alaska to Hawaii and many places in between.
Sue was a devoted mother to Brad and Debbie, and her care extended far beyond her immediate family. She poured her heart into nurturing her grandchildren and had a special place in her heart for her “granddogs,” Hampton, Tig, and Junah. Sue had a soft spot for all of God’s creatures. Over the years, she could be found bottle feeding calves, taking in stray dogs and cats, and even a squirrel or two. Known for her boundless kindness, Sue became a second mother to many—offering comfort, wisdom, and a hot meal to anyone who needed it. Whether human or animal, if you needed love, you found it in her presence.
She is survived by her beloved husband of nearly 65 years, Bob; her children Brad and Debbie; her grandchildren Hunter (Emily), Cordel (Alyssa), and Kenlyn; and sisters Frances Graves and Jean Everett.
Graveside services will be held at at a later date at Carpenters Campground United Methodist Church, with Gertrude Osbourne officiating.
Sue’s life was a living example of love in action. She will be deeply missed, but her spirit lives on in every life she touched.
