Selma Powell 08/02/1943 - 11/27/2025
Selma Jeanne Powell (née Carlson) of Walland passed away peacefully on November 27, 2025. Beloved by family and friends, Selma is survived by her devoted husband of 57 years, William Powell; her daughter, Lisa Collins; her son, Timothy (Amanda) Powell; and her cherished granddaughter, Iris Powell. She is also survived by her siblings, Robert (Stephanie) Carlson and Nancy (Richard) Mills, along with many nieces and nephews who were so near and dear to her heart.
She is preceded in death by her father and mother, Selvi and Helen (née Barrett) Carlson.
A faithful Christian, Selma lived her life with kindness, compassion, and a deep sense of gratitude. She took comfort in her faith, and her family rests in the assurance that she is now at peace with the Lord. Selma was a devoted mother, a gifted educator, and a proud retiree of the University of Tennessee–Knoxville. One of her greatest joys was tending to her numerous flower beds, where she found peace, purpose, and endless beauty. She loved sharing this passion with others.
Selma will be remembered for her gentle spirit, her dedication to family, and the love she shared so generously with everyone who knew her.
The family will hold a private Celebration of Life service. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association.
