Shirley Ann Huffstetler Cable went home to heaven on March 22, 2026. She deeply loved Jesus and spent her life living the Bible verse: “So in everything, do to others what you would have them to do you (Matthew 7:12).” Shirley was known for her generosity, compassion, energy, honesty, cooking, and love of travel.  It was often said that she “never stopped” because she was always volunteering, driving a friend to a medical appointment, cooking a meal for someone, and spending time with her family.

Shirley was born on May 17, 1937, to Otis Huffstetler and Mamie Moore Huffstetler and grew up in the Carpenter’s Campground community. She graduated from Everett High School in 1955. Shirley retired from K-Mart after 21 years of service and then volunteered at the Blount Memorial Hospital Auxiliary gift shop for another 23 years. She also volunteered with the Pregnancy Resource Center, Chilhowee Baptist Center, and went on mission trips with her church to serve families in need in Appalachia.

Shirley was an active member of Everett Hills Baptist Church, where she enjoyed singing in the choir and participating in her weekly Bible study and Sunday School class. From an early age, she learned to play the piano, a passion that continued throughout her life. Shirley played piano for the Eastern Star, of which she was a member for 50+ years, and for weekly services at Wellington Place assisted living. She visited all 50 states, mainly through bus tours with her sister and friends, and once bowled a perfect score in her bowling league.

Shirley loved her family and was cherished by them. She is preceded in death by her beloved son Danny Cable and siblings Dorothy Huffstetler Johnson; Oscar, Earl, and Richard Huffstetler; and Clark Davis. She is survived by her brother Herbert Huffstetler (Deanie); children Bryan Cable (Dee Dee), Janine Stinnett (Lee), Tim Cable (Ann), daughter-in-law Patty Cable; grandchildren Mandy Adkins (Josh), Jeremy Cable (Patricia), Jennifer Cable (Scott Hooper), Katie Stinnett (Jeff Hooper), Zach Stinnett (Tiffany), Allie Uselton (Russell), Adam Cable (Savannah); great-grandchildren Luke, Gabe, and Eli Adkins; Cole Cable; Sidney and Adeline Sims and Cameron Hooper; Caroline, Jack, and Andrew Stinnett; Atlas Cable; Kinsley Uselton; and several nieces, nephews, and close friends.

The family extends their gratitude to the compassionate caregivers at Shannondale of Maryville and Prisma Hospice. The Memorial Service is at Everett Hills Baptist Church at 4:30pm on Thursday, March 26, with Josh Adkins officiating. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to the ministries where Shirley volunteered for years: Pregnancy Resource Center and Chilhowee Baptist Center.
