William C. McCarter 12/02/1948 - 05/16/2026
William C. McCarter, 77, of Friendsville, TN passed away at home May 16, 2026 after a long battle with Parkinson’s Disease.
He is preceded in death by father and mother, Major C. and Emma Jean McSpadden McCarter, in-laws James and Joyce Maddox, brother-in-law Ralph Miller and nephew Mark Miller.
Bill is survived by wife of 55 years, Rita Maddox McCarter, daughter and son Andrea and Jim(Robin) McCarter, grandchildren Kristina, Sydney, Shiloh, Jeremiah, Harper, and Rylee McCarter, two great granddaughters, sisters Martha Miller, Diane(Bob) McFarland, and brother Alan McCarter(Debbie), brother-in-law Kelly Maddox(Janice), and many nieces and nephews.
Bill graduated from Everett High School in 1966, and Carson Newman College in 1970. He worked for the University of TN for 40 plus years. Boy Scouts, Ras, Girls Scouts, and Isshinryu Karate were important activities he participated in. He was a life-long member of Broadway Baptist Church, 2329 E. Broadway Maryville, TN 37804, where he served as Sunday School Youth teacher, RA leader, deacon and sound operator for the TV ministry.
Receiving of Friends will be held on Thursday May 21, 2026 from 4 PM to 6 PM at Broadway Baptist Church. Dr. Tony Collins and Pastor Steve Mouzon will be officiating the service at 6 PM.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Broadway Baptist Church TV Ministry or Missions. Many heart-felt thanks to Dr. Justin Bennett, and Blount Memorial Hospice, especially Monique Ely and Melissa Cook.
